Modernizing UI and Information Architecture of MyACC portal

Landing page for MyACC portal

Project Summary

LEAD UI/UX DESIGNER | MyACC PORTAL - AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE | ED TECH SOFTWARE | ADOBE XD, ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

Problem to solve: The MyACC portal at Austin Community College needed a visual refresh for modernization and improvements to information architecture to achieve frequent tasks. Usability testing revealed that students could not locate their user profile or their advisor contact information, among other items.

Solution: Updated portal design included “Quick links” that aligned with user needs, an expanded menu which correlated to chronological tasks required of most students, and a “role selector” for a phase 2 design which would show role-based sets of links.

During the design process, as the only designer on the team, I restructured the information architecture and created a reusable style guide for the development team, which I updated when we made a change to the color palette.

Impact: The redesign of “MyACC” increased ease of use of online services for 72,000 students, faculty, and staff by surfacing frequently used links to more logical locations, thus enabling users to find information in seconds instead of minutes.
